A few words about us
The Magnet was built in 1840 as a coaching inn, due to its close proximity to the Heaton Norris Station. It has retained its original name since then.
Formerly derelict and previously serving only keg beers, extensive refurbishment was undertaken when we got the keys on 22nd September 2009. Our vision was to establish a family run, family friendly real ale pub with decent beers and decent decor.
A couple of months later, on 13th November at 13:13:13, we tempted fate and opened our doors, with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The ribbon was cut by our good friend John who was born on Friday 13th!
The Magnet is a friendly multi-roomed pub with ample seating. The beauty about this is that it suits everyone and all moods – you can switch off with a drink and a paper (supplied by the pub) or you can enjoy a few drinks with friends. We have an extensive beer garden to the rear of the pub including 2 elevated terraces which trap the sun during the warm summer evenings.
We have a games room with a pool table, 2 dart boards and a fully loaded jukebox. We have a selection of board games and colouring books for both adults and children. Children are welcome until 8.30 pm each night. Baby changing facilities are available. Dogs are also welcome and we have doggy bowls available for them to sample a tap water or two.
We like to keep things simple – drinks and snacks! We offer locally-made pork pies (served with mustard, naturally), and a great selection of crisps, nuts, popcorn and pork scratchings.
Every Friday from 5.30 pm we have fantastic stone baked pizzas available from the Pizza Maker located at the rear of the pub.
Our chosen charity is Kidneys For Life at MINT (Manchester Institute For Nephrology and Transplantation). This charity is based at Manchester Royal Infirmary and funds raised helps renal patients from all over the region. It is a charity very close to our hearts. So far we have raised thousands of pounds through donations and the sale of pump clips.

So far, our efforts have been recognised with the following awards:

Awards like these are a huge compliment and inspire us to do more, and to continue to improve. We are enjoying ourselves so much giving enjoyment to so many.
What a fantastic first few years – a great achievement to take The Magnet from a derelict (and previously keg only) pub, to a haven for cask and keg beer lovers!
We hope you will come and see for yourself.

“I stumbled on this location by accident one afternoon back in February 2011. I count that event as a very good break indeed. I’ve been coming back as often as I can ever since. Do yourselves a favour: go and see for yourselves.”
“Fabulous selection of drinks, no TVs, no music, no gaming or gambling, just plenty of friendly drinkers – old school!”
“Been going here for years and now after moving to the area recently what a pub to be able to call a local. Fantastic range of beers and friendly staff.”
“My first visit and was not disapointed. Great selection of ales and friendly customers and staff. Make sure you put it on your Stockport crawl.”
“Walking in the pub has an unusual layout and decoration, this however adds to the draw of the place. The busiest pub of our day by a country mile. The pub had plenty of space and finding a table even on a busy night wasn’t an issue.”
“Great choice of beers, helpful, knowledgeable staff, lovely atmosphere …. a real jewel in the crown. My brother, over from Germany, has given this his highest rating. Highly recommended.”
“Great atmosphere and the cask beer was in outstanding condition. Also tasters available. Staff showed great knowledge about the product. Fantastic to see a pub doing well.”
“This has been my favourite pub for a long time. Usually busy with a buzzing atmosphere, always friendly welcoming staff and of course a brilliant selection of excellent quality beer!”
